Scuba Diving Fun With Turtles and Octopus

May 17, 2012

Pa’awa Depth: 38′ Bottom Time: 45min Visibility: 80′-100′

Koko Craters Depth: 35′ Bottom Time: 42min Visibility: 60′-80′

Fun and entertaining day on and under the surface of the ocean in Oahu! Instructor Nate took Certified diver Kenny and Intro diver Harvey on two very exciting dives today. The highlight being this tiny little octopus that decided to come out and play with us for a portion of the dive. He was one of the smallest I’ve seen and he seemed to like attaching to Nate’s mask best which was great for photos! The Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and the tiny octopus were firsts for both Kenny and Harvey and they were stoked to get to see them during their Oahu diving experience.

All The Way From New York to Hanauma Bay

May 11, 2012

Hanauma Bay Depth: 20′ Bottom Time: 55min Visibility: 40′

Our Intro to Scuba divers today were all the way from New York state. Their daughter lives on Oahu now and they are lucky enough to be visiting her for a whole month. They have checked off most of the Things To Do in Oahu and were ready for something a little more adventurous! We were very excited to introduce them to Scuba Diving in Oahu! Once we got down to the beautiful beach at the Bay and got settled on our beach towels, Instructor Dave began his thorough safety briefing teaching them about the gear and how to master a few easy skills. Shortly after we were in the water! Getting used to seeing and breathing underwater generally takes a few minutes to get used to and that makes Hanuama Bay a perfect place for people to try Scuba for the first time. First we wade out to waist deep water and practice putting our faces in the water. Once everyone is comfortable with that we go a little deeper and kneel on the sandy bottom with only about a foot of water above our heads. Here we practice a few skills and really get comfortable with the equipment and breathing underwater for the first time. Our couple today did great! As soon as they mastered the gear and conquered some minor nerves we were off on our dive. It was a gorgeous day underwater at the Bay today and we saw all kinds of species of reef fish as well as some great coral formations. Once back on land we were very happy to hear how much they enjoyed their Scuba Diving experience and were eager to bring their daughters with them next time! Mahalo for diving with Living Ocean Scuba and we look forward to seeing you and your family again soon!
